British egg processors have invested £25 million into state of the art facilities in order to increase capacity and meet growing consumer demand for British egg products.
Sales of British egg products are soaring, with eggs bought for processing up 7.2% in 2014, compared to the previous year. And, this demand is continuing, with the latest egg statistics from DEFRA revealing the number of eggs brought by UK processors is up a further 2% in the first quarter of 2015.
Ian Jones, Chairman of British Lion egg processors, said: “Food ingredients have been in the media spotlight over the past few years, leading to a mistrust amongst consumers about the quality and safety of some prepared foods. So, it’s not surprising that demand for British eggs products has increased as consumers look for reassurance from manufacturers that they are using safe, quality ingredients.
“The investment by processors signals the industry’s commitment to ensuring food safety and shows the growing emphasis amongst consumers for foods made in Britain, with British ingredients.”
