Baby’s first dippy egg and soldiers

Baby’s first dippy egg and soldiers

A traditional and nutritious early meal. The dippy egg can be fed on a spoon or babies can dip the soldiers themselves. The egg provides high quality protein, vitamins and minerals, complemented by carbohydrate in the toast soldiers. Suitable from six months.

Ingredients

  • 1 British Lion egg
  • 1 slice of white bread
  • A little unsalted butter

Method

  1. Bring a pan of water to the boil and lower in the egg. Simmer for 6 minutes then drain, rinse under cold water and leave to cool a little.
  2. Meanwhile toast a slice of bread and spread with a little butter and cut into soldiers that will fit into your baby’s fist with a little sticking out of the top (it is fine to leave the crusts on).
  3. Place the egg in an egg cup and remove the top of the egg. Serve with a few toast soldiers, which can be dipped into the egg yolk, with the rest of the egg eaten by spoon.
