What's inside an egg?

Lesson plan image

A KS2 science lesson focused on the anatomy of a hen's egg. Pupils observe and compare eggs, then learn each internal part and its function: the shell with its tiny pores for oxygen exchange, the inner and outer membranes that protect against bacteria, the air cell that acts as a shock absorber, the albumen (egg white) rich in protein, the chalazae that hold the yolk steady, and the yolk that feeds the developing chick. Through observation stations, a 3D model and labelled diagrams, plus true-or-false quizzes, children explore how every part helps a chick grow.
