35,000 shoppers sign petition to crack down on imported eggs

More than 35,000 British shoppers have now signed a petition demanding supermarkets ditch imported eggs and commit to using British egg ingredients for own-label foods produced in the UK, making it one of the most well supported on change.org.

Launched by British Lion Egg Processors, the petition is part of a wider campaign to raise consumer awareness of the use of British eggs in food products.  This follows research showing more than 60% of shoppers are worried about the quality and safety of eggs produced in other countries, and 75% would be more likely to purchase a product if the packaging featured the British Lion.

The campaign has received significant support from the public; MPs including Neil Parish, Jim Shannon and Rosie Cooper, as well as celebrity influencers including Myleene Klass and The Georgia Edit, who have been highlighting the issues to their 600,000 combined social followers.
