BEIC appoints new auditors for Lion scheme

The British Egg Industry Council (BEIC) has appointed new independent auditors for the Lion Code of Practice.

NSF-CMi Certification will provide independent assessment and certification throughout the Lion scheme, encompassing the entire production chain including packing centres, laying farms, rearing farms, hatcheries, breeding farms and feed mills – over 1,750 site inspections.

NSF-CMi Certification will also become the Independent Control Body overseeing the annual collection of samples from egg producing farms that go for laboratory testing to prove that there is no Salmonella present.

The appointment follows a tender process conducted by BEIC for the Lion Code audit contract.

Since its introduction in 1998, the Lion scheme has played a key role in the effective elimination of salmonella from British eggs. Click here for more information.
