Egg sales eggceed expectations

Consumers are getting cracking in the kitchen, according to new figures showing egg sales are growing dramatically, rising by more then 5%* during October, well ahead of industry expectations.

The sales hike, equating to some 17m eggs, builds on excellent September figures, which itself had seen growth of 3%.

Overall sales have risen by around 75m in the last two years as consumers add eggs to their menus.

Andrew Parker, chairman of the British Egg Industry Council, believes British Egg Week has played a positive role in reinforcing egg sales: "British Egg Week gave the industry the perfect opportunity to consolidate recent growth and we are now seeing a very strong end to the year. All the positive nutrition stories have added to increasing consumer recognition of the great value and convenience eggs offer. It's little wonder that egg sales are on the increase."
