Eggheads smash world record

Today, 183 eggheads dipped their toast soldiers in unison to become world record holders. British Lion eggs have broken the record for the largest number of toast soldiers dipped in boiled eggs simultaneously – the previous record stood at 178.

In celebration of World Egg Day and the culmination of British Egg Week, egg fans young and old assembled at the historic Exeter College in Oxford to tuck into the very special egg breakfast.

The world record tops off an important week for eggs as the Food Standards Agency (FSA) has confirmed that runny, and even raw, eggs are safe for all to eat, as long as they carry the British Lion mark. The change in official advice means that even vulnerable groups such as pregnant women, young children and elderly people can enjoy the nutritional benefits of eggs, without having to fully cook them, for the first time since the 1980s.
