Eggs Factor Gets the X Factor

X Factor finalists Same Difference put their kitchen skills to the test in an egg-cooking masterclass held to launch the Eggs Factor, British Lion eggs’ cooking competition. Sean and Sarah Smith, the pop duo from Portsmouth, joined First News Junior Reporter Saskia Coles in professional kitchens to learn the basics of cooking with eggs, including boiling, scrambling and making omelettes.

While a survey conducted by the British Egg Information Service shows that one in five adults can’t boil an egg, the statistics are even worse for children, with less than half able to complete this simple task. British Lion eggs developed this years’ Eggs Factor competition with this in mind, hopeful that a cooking competition for children will encourage healthy eating habits from an early age and help fight the obesity epidemic at a grass roots level.

Cook-offs will be held at 12 venues around the UK during June, with the final taking place in London on 6 July.

British Lion eggs have developed point of sale support including leaflets and barker pads to generate entries and increase interest in eggs throughout UK retail outlets. The POS contains important information about the competition along with an egg-based recipe from Eggs Factor judge and children’s food expert Annabel Karmel.

Entries can be made by visiting www.crackingeggs.co.uk by May 5.
