Gen Z and millennial Brits are obsessed with these viral egg trends – how many have you tried?

While we still love to scramble, poach and fry, when it comes to the nation’s eggs, a third of young Brits can now be found rustling up ‘cured egg yolks’ (38%), ‘raw eggs over rice’ (23%), ‘viral Cajun egg boils’ (18%), ‘royalty omelettes’ (17%), ‘Mayak eggs’ (13%), ‘egg flights’ (12%) and even ‘Vietnamese egg coffees’ (11%).

And it seems that social media is playing a huge role in changing the way we look at the humble egg, inspiring the TikTok generation to try new trends and recipes from places as far away as Japan, according to the research by British Lion Eggs.

In fact, 79% of Gen Z and Millennials say they regularly come across new egg trends on social media, with two thirds (63%) believing that international influences are making their way to the UK because of it.

Two thirds (64%) even say their ‘for you’ page is full of interesting recipes from around the world, with a vast number of viral recipes from Asia (79%).

It’s no surprise that 61% think there are many more ways to serve eggs now, not just scrambled, boiled, poached or fried.

One of the trends that is dividing the nation is eating raw or runny eggs which 60% have noticed popping up a lot on TikTok recently.

Almost half (49%) have no problem chowing down on raw or runny eggs, as long as they have the British Lion stamp on them, with 66% believing their parent’s generation was fussier than they are about tucking into runny yolks.

72% go a step further and say they enjoy eating many things that their parents would never dream of trying, like sweet potato (41%), bubble tea (36%), matcha (31%), hot honey (29%), pickles (27%), Korean hot pot (23%) and Birria tacos (19%).

A British Lion Eggs spokesperson commented, “We know that food is a path to global exploration, with the advent of social media finding and trying new recipes is even easier. Something that is clearly evident in this research as modern Brits are increasingly embracing the endless and exciting ways they find eggs served online!

“With the growing appetite for raw and runny egg dishes, we always recommend that shoppers look for the British Lion mark, which not only guarantees the highest food standards, but is also recommended by the NHS to ensure eggs are safe to serve raw or runny, even to pregnant women and young children.”

Eight in ten (81%) under 45s think their generation is more adventurous than their parent’s generation, with 79% agreeing that food is more exciting than ever in 2026.

Other egg-based trends that are picking up steam on social media include muffin tin eggs (36%), egg high protein chocolate pudding (24%) and jammy eggs (18%) from across the pond. Three quarters (75%) think that eggs are the basis of more food trend videos than any other ingredient, thanks to the fact that they are healthy (58%), quick to cook (57%), affordable (46%), delicious (45%) and versatile (43%).
