Lauren Jones has the Eggs Factor

Ten year old Lauren Jones from Flint Mountain, Flintshire was crowned Eggs Factor 2009 champion at the final held in London today. Lauren impressed a panel of judges led by Annabel Karmel and X Factor finalists Same Difference with her recipe, Eggrap, made for Snoop Dogg the rapper.

Ten budding chefs from primary schools across the UK battled it out for the Eggs Factor crown at renowned cookery school L’atelier des Chefs in central London. While Annabel Karmel judged the youngsters’ efforts, Same Difference handed out prizes to the eggcited contestants.

Lauren – whose recipe beat dishes such as Tasmanian Deviled Eggs for Loony Tunes character Tasmanian Devil, and a Gromelette for Wallace from Wallace and Gromit - won a culinary weekend in London and will have her recipe published in one of Karmel’s forthcoming cookbooks.

Lauren had already beaten off competition in Liverpool on 17 June to go through to the national final. Cook-offs to find kids with the Eggs Factor were held in ten cities throughout June.

Andrew Parker, Chairman of the British Egg Industry Council, said: “The judges were very impressed with the quality of the dishes today. It’s great to see children using their imagination to come up with new ways of cooking with eggs.”
