A perfectly balanced breakfast

26/02/2010

While we are all aware that breakfast is important, precisely what to eat can be a difficult choice, especially with so many mixed messages about healthy and unhealthy foods. British Lion eggs have come to the rescue with two perfectly balanced breakfasts which optimise the nutrients for men and women in their morning meal while keeping the calorie count down.

The ingredients in the recipes have been chosen for their specific properties and combine to make a meal which provides more than the sum of its parts. The vitamin C in the orange and cranberry juice, for example, aids the absorption of the iron found in eggs.

With two separate studies finding that people who ate an egg-based breakfast consumed less calories throughout the rest of the day and lost more weight than those who were given a breakfast of equal calories that did not contain eggs, these recipes are not only a quick, nutritious breakfast, but will also help battle the bulge – an excellent alternative to the traditional fry-up on winter weekends.

Nutritionist Cath McDonald said: “Eggs contain a wealth of vitamins and minerals, and with the addition of a few simple ingredients, British Lion eggs have created a perfectly balanced way for men and women to start the day. The recipes take minutes to prepare, which is great news for those who don’t have much time but still want the health benefits of incorporating more eggs in their diet – especially following the news that all UK heart and health advisory bodies have now lifted the limits on egg consumption.”
