The great egg drop challenge

A design and technology lesson framed as an engineering challenge: design a device that protects an egg when dropped from a height. Pupils think like engineers, considering how packaging protects fragile items, and explore how different materials behave, with soft materials absorbing impact and harder ones offering strength but less cushioning. They plan and build an egg protector, test it in a fair drop from the same height, then evaluate what worked, what they would improve, and what they can learn from comparing their designs with other groups.
